Hello friend!

and a hearty welcome to my substack, Quodlibeta Theologica–fancy Latin for “all sorts of theology questions and responses.”

You’ll definitely find a bit of everything here; but Quodlibeta Theologica especially focuses on the intersection of traditional doctrine of God and issues of interpreting holy Scripture. On the one hand, I explain what traditional doctrine of God consists of. But on the other, I like to explain how holy Scripture does and does not generate such doctrine, or (now the reverse direction) how such doctrine generates problems for interpreting holy Scripture. I tend to bring fathers like Origen and Augustine and scholastic theologians like Anselm and Thomas to bear on this bundle of problems. And given that method, you’ll also find a lot of reflection on the history of tradition and/or development of doctrine, how to read patristic and scholastic texts, and so on.

Much of the work here can be technical, but I have found walking the paths of the fathers and scholastics more than worth the difficulty, indeed, worth even much more difficulty. I am confident that you’ll find the same thing to be true.

So I hope you’ll join me on the journey and subscribe. Doing so at the free tier gives you access to all the free posts, but also entrance to the community of friends discussing these problems (on the subscriber chat). Subscribing at the paid tier not only gives you access to all the paywalled posts, but it also directly supports me and my work. Substack is becoming my main source of income (it is the new scholastic mendicancy!), so your subscriptions are deeply appreciated and not taken for granted (really!).

All in all, I hope to get to know you and serve you as I can, in whatever form that takes. For me, teaching is merely loving someone into some truth, and I hope to be able to do that somewhat for you.
